Friday Facts: More Unconventional Real Estate Wisdom

From the National Association of Realtors 2013 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers:

SELLERS:

  • 2/3 of sellers only contact one agent when listing their home
  • 39% of sellers found their agent through a referral by family or friend
  • 25% of sellers used an agent they had used before
  • The typical seller has lived in their home for 9 years.  In 2007, it was 6 years
  • 36% of sellers offered incentives like assistance with closing costs or home warranties
  • Only 9% of sellers were FSBO’s (For Sale By Owner), and of those, 44% knew their buyer prior to the sale

THE HOUSE:

  • The typical house is 1900 square feet, built in 1992 and has 3 bedrooms and two baths
  • 80% are single family, detached homes
  • 14% of sellers over the age of 50 bought in senior-related housing.
