We’re known for our sandy beaches, sweeping shorelines and miles and miles of open ocean, and rightly so. But there’s also a “Made on Cape Cod” industry here that’s flourishing alongside our many hotels and restaurants. Some of their products are everywhere; some you have to look a little more closely for! Fear not – we’ve assembled a handy list of our favorite stores that stock made on Cape Cod products.
OK, we’re cheating a bit here. Unless they move the brewery to Falmouth, it’s always going to be Mid-Cape, but it’s so good it has to be on the list. In addition to the wonderful beer always on tap or in growlers (4 varieties are year round, and another 2-4 rotate in every month or so), the brewers are deeply committed to the local economy and only sell products created here on Cape Cod. Items like local sea salt, beer brittle (beer brittle!), cookbooks and much more are available for your buying pleasure. It’s definitely worth a trip out of the Upper Cape.
Located in Mashpee Commons, Cape Kaleidoscopes is a very unlikely business: they sell handmade kaleidoscopes. All beautiful pieces, they range from inexpensive and unique keychains to one-of-a-kind pieces of art that sell for thousands of dollars. Some pieces are handmade here on Cape – others are handmade around the US and around the world. Cape Kaleidoscopes is responsible for introducing many Cape Codders, summer residents and visitors to the wonders of kaleidoscopes. If you’re ever in the Commons, it’s a must-visit!
Other than the beer, this is probably the most delicious Cape Cod product featured in this post. Handmade while you watch in their candy kitchens, Ghelfi’s sells gourmet chocolates and fudge by the pound (or the box) and also sells ice cream by the scoop. Good luck walking out of one of their stores with less than a pound of candy! Their salted caramels and salted chocolate bark are absolutely divine and a must try. While we’re not huge fans, some swear by their chocolate-covered citruses. Did we mention they’ll ship anywhere in the US?
The newest business on this list, the Pocasset Pretzel Company was born in March 2012 and has since taken the Upper Cape by storm. Their delicious pretzels are hand-dipped in all different kinds of chocolate and sold in themed packages – their “Cape Cod Package” is dipped in white and aqua chocolate. In addition to being a great party snack, their products are beautifully packaged and make great gifts. You can find their pretzels in specialty stores all over the Upper Cape, and at the Cape Cod Beer brewery.
